Iraeli rice has been popping into my life for the last few weeks – so I thought I’d try and make some and came up with this wonderfully Fragrant Israeli Rice.
I don’t know why, but I never thought of putting lentils in rice before. It’s such a great idea! Plus, when you add some spices, some toasted pepitas to give it some crunch, some sultanas to give it a nice sweetness and some fresh herbs for that extra flavour kick, it becomes this really moreish, flavourful, and a dish that you can’t stop eating!
It’s so easy to make, but so tasty and flavourful! The best part is that as a meal it’s a complete protein! It would work wonderfully as a side too – perhaps with our Cajun Spiced Tofu!
This lovely rice has one of my favourite spices in it – turmeric. I’ve been using it in so many recipes lately, and in fact, I love it so much that I put together a bunch of recipes from different bloggers around the world using it! It’s called 62 Turmeric Treasures to Boost Your Health. If you love turmeric, check it out!

I’ve never heard of Israeli rice, but man o man I love food from that part of the world. Rice is one of my husband’s comfort foods, and it looks like we’ve got most of the ingredients in our cabinets already. I think we’ll try it out this weekend. YUM.
Sounds great Annie! I love when I see a recipe and I have all (or most) of the ingredients! Hope it goes well! Rice is such a great comfort food! 🙂
Hi Katie, The recipe sounds wonderful.. what is the size of the tin of lentils?
Thank you…
Hi Suzannah! I used a 400g tin of brown lentils drained. Hope this helps! Katie
