Lemon and Poppy Seed Cookies! It had to happen eventually! Cookies are the best – the only downfall is, they usually don’t last very long out of the oven!
Poppy seeds are interesting little seeds, with a bluish hue and quite a distinct flavour. Nutty, and a little bitter, they go well with sweet things, as that masks the bitter flavour. Even though derived from the opium poppy, these little kidney shaped seeds do not contain any narcotic properties! They are however, high in anti-oxidants, dietary fibre and essential fatty acids. They are also good sources of iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium. Read more about the properties of poppy here.
These Lemon and Poppy Seed Cookies are yum yum yum. I think we should have a poll. In Australia, I’ve always grown up saying biscuits, not cookies. But I know in the USA, a biscuit is more like a scone. So, what do you think I should call these from now on? Biscuits or Cookies? I think I’m leaning towards calling them cookies! Let me know what you think in the comments!
