Teriyaki Tofu

This Teriyaki Tofu recipe is so amazingly tasty, and easy to make too. You’ll definitely want to be coming back to make this recipe time and time again – I know we do!

Firstly, chop your tofu into your desired size, depending on what you want to eat it with. Small to medium rectangles or squares are a good size! Then coat it in cornflour.. for this step you could also use tapioca flour or potato flour.

Then fry it up in some oil! While that’s happening, quickly make a sauce by mixing tamari, mirin, cooking sake and sugar. Whisk the sauce well, and once each side of the tofu looks cooked, then pour the sauce in and coat the tofu in it. How easy is that?

This Teriyaki Tofu is great as an addition to a Buddha bowl, or paired with rice, or in a roll or sandwich! It also pairs amazingly with a Green Papaya Salad that we’ll be posting the recipe for soon!

  • 1/3 cup cornflour
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tbsp caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sake
Instructions
  1. Cut the tofu into squares or rectangles of your desired size. Coat them in cornflour. Heat up the oil in a non sitck fry pan and cook the tofu for a few minutes on each side, so they are slightly browned.

  2. Meanwhile in a small bowl mix the caster sugar, mirin, soy sauce and sake. Mix well. When the tofu has browned, add this mixture to the pan. It will start to go sticky, so turn the tofu often to get it coated in the sauce and cook until the tofu is browned nicely and well coated. Now serve it up with whateve you want! Enjoy!

Hi Rab, thank you. I’ve tried raw sugar and it’s good. I’m sure brown sugar or coconut sugar would also work. With the sake, perhaps sub with a dry sherry, or if you are after a non alcoholic version, then try rice wine vinegar.
