Chocolate Banana Freakshake

I’ve had a Freakshake recipe on my mind for a while now, but didn’t really have an suitable glasses to make it in. Lucky for us we’ve moved into a new place where our friends live just down the way, so I popped in there, borrowed their glasses for this recipe, and finally made this Chocolate Banana Freakshake!

This is pretty easy to make and will wow anyone you make it for! It’s perfect as a dessert or as a pimped up drink. It’s kind of like a Banana Split in a drink. If you want to make a banana split (not as a drink), check out this recipe here.

This recipe can be modified to suit you – you can add protein powder, chia, hemp seeds, peanut butter are some good ideas. You could make it a fruit shake instead of chocolate – just add berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries or blackberries.

Chocolate Banana Freakshake

We use a vegan vanilla ice cream we get from Aldi, but any vegan ice cream will do. To make it extra chocolatey – use a vegan chocolate ice cream! We used Dandies Vegan marshmallows to decorate this with – I reckon they are the fluffiest and best vegan marshmallows on the market!

We used soy whip on top of this Freakshake – you can sometimes get this from Cruelty Free stores or buy it online. If you can’t find it, I reckon this Coconut Cream recipe by Minimalist Baker would work quite well.

Banana Chocolate Freakshake
Prep Time
10 mins

Servings: 2 people
Ingredients
For the Shake:
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 banana
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • 2 Tbsp cacao powder
  • 2 cups soy milk
  • 1 scoop vegan vanilla ice cream
Additional ingredients:
  • 100g chocolate
  • 2 Tbsp crushed peanuts
  • 2 additional scoops of vegan vanilla ice cream
  • Soy whip
  • 4 vegan marshmallows toasted
  • 1 banana cut in half
Instructions
  1. Firstly melt the 100g of chocolate in a heatproof bowl over hot water. Stir frequently until chocolate has melted. Transfer this chocolate into a smaller bowl and dip the rim of your glasses in it to coat - don't worry if it goes down the side of the glass - it adds to the effect of the drink. Then dip the glass into the crushed nuts. You can also drizzle some of the melted chocolate on the inside of the glass. At this stage I also put the halved bananas on a skewer cover them with some chocolate and nuts and keep this in the freezer to set a bit. Put the glasses in the freezer while you make the shake.

  2. Add all the ingredients for the shake in a high powered blender and blend until smooth.

  3. Put the marshmallows on a skewer and toast them if you haven't already. We use a mini blow torch to do this.

  4. Pour the shake ingredients into the glasses - leave about an inch from the top so you can add a scoop of icecream to each one, then top with soy whip, add your decorations (toasted marshmallows and choc bananas), drizzle some melted chocolate on top, if there is any left, and topped with some crushed nuts. Enjoy!
