Journey to Aud's Place, Ågskardet

It was another full and peaceful night sleep at Mosjøen. The morning was very easy because we had a dishwasher! With the luck that we didn’t have to use our own plates, knives or forks we got to get out on the road while the dishwasher was humming away.

Well, even with this prompt departure we still managed to miss the next ferry by 10 minutes! This was not a bad thing though. We turned the car around and headed to a small town nearby which well, we can’t remember the name of. By small I mean, this place didn’t have any shops, just a couple of houses or cabins as they seemed. What this place did have was a great number of reindeer that had been tamed by the Sami people which are the native Norwegians. The car just had to stop for this, about twenty reindeer were walking over the road from young to old. Katie was moving so quickly with her camera that she almost joined their pack.

We found our way back to the ferry which was just arriving as we drove into the queue. After crossing the arctic circle on another short and calm ferry ride, we found ourselves driving off at Ågskardet. A short car trip had us arriving at our stay for the night. It was a double story cabin with a homely feel to it. The owner lived further down the driveway in a larger house on the lakefront. I felt like we unpacked everything from the car this time. It almost felt like we were moving in for a month. The time seemed to be ticking along quite quickly, yet up this way, the sun doesn’t move much.

Aud, the owner of the Airbnb had some fresh vegetables picked from her garden ready for us which were much needed! With that bit of inspiration and a few hungry stomachs, before we knew it, we were all in the kitchen playing separate roles in making a healthy and filling feast.

Spin the clock about 45 minutes forward and the feast had begun with a kitchen table holding lentil soup, a salad consisting of roast carrots and artichokes, olive tapenade and grapes. After living on bread and crackers with peanut butter, Vegemite and jam, our bodies felt like they had instantly evolved into humans again.

The lake was inviting us down to meet the treasures and experiences to be had on this barren shoreline. We walked down through an incredible vegetable garden that seemed to be thriving very well just from the area alone. Everything so so lush and green every direction we looked. After wading through some long grass we made it to the lake. What a sight for the soul! The vibe of the area was very peaceful and I felt like anyone who lived here for a while would really become a very calm person. The ground had a lot of seaweed in some places and when you walked over it, it felt like the ground was about to cave in. Yeah, I tested it a few times!

A light rain began and we figured it was a timely interruption to our shenanigans down on the shore. Well, only one thing left to do, climb up the ladder to the second story of our stay and choose our beds!
