Trondheim to Mosjøen

TRONDHEIM to MOSJØEN

The sleep at our lake house cabin in Trondheim must have been one of the deepest nights of sleep I’ve experienced. It felt like no time had passed since getting into bed yet my body was completely refreshed and ready for the day ahead. I gazed out the curtains to the beautiful sunlit morning. The pink and completely silent ambiance had lifted now and in its place was the sound of birds chirping, soft lapping waves against the shoreline and a warm feeling everywhere the sun touched. I went outside barefoot to soak up some nature in the garden off to the side of the cabin. I remember feeling the spongy grass pushing against my feet as I explored my way around this beautiful little pocket of land. After breathing in the air it was easy to understand why I had slept so well the night before. I made my way back to the cabin and saw everyone had risen to the land of the living again. We all pitched in making breakfast and setting up at the outside table to enjoy another meal of bread, jam and tea. It was nice not having to spend too long packing up thanks to not having brought much down from the car last night. We were able to soak up the sun and relax in this completely peaceful scenery where there seemed to be no other existence of humans around other than an empty floating small boat that seemed to have not been used for quite some time. The morning was about to turn into the afternoon when we decided to make our way back up to the car.

It wasn’t long to get to the city of Trondheim. This place seems to be built mostly on the water with a lot of houses and work offices accessible only by a boardwalk over the water. We wandered and wandered eventually coming across a very large gothic church which showcased a very large variety of holy sculptures all over the front side of the building.

The breakfast had already worn off as to be expected and we were in curiosity mode about what kind of vegan option places we could get into for lunch. By some stroke of luck and a bit of local knowledge, we came across a vegan cafe called Hagen right across the road from where we had parked the car! They had a vegan buffet there which we all got and really made the most of what we paid! The food was mostly great, except the sweet potato chips were quite salty.

Feeling very satisfied we managed to find the leverage to get our bodies up and walking again. It was time to head to Mosjøen. There is one tiny detail coming up which I definitely feel inclined to talk about. It so happened that Katie had to use the toilet right around the time we were driving through a small town named ‘Hell’. There aren’t any biblical or spiritual links to this place, it’s really just Norway still but there is something quite funny about using a toilet in Hell. Katie sure loves to talk about it once in a while now.

The car quickly sped out of Hell and once again we found ourselves in an untouched, rugged section of the world. We were now traveling in Moose and Bear country. I was so certain I would see a bear and the others more desiring to see a Moose. Well, funnily enough, we saw a Moose!! My eyes just happened to glance out the window while we were speeding along a long stretch of road. I saw the moose casually walk out from behind a tree up behind a house. We quickly slowed and turned around to get another look at this giant four-legged creature. Sure enough, it had disappeared though. Apparently, they are quite elusive to humans. It isn’t a wonder though with how they are hunted just for wall art.TRONDHEIM to MOSJØEN

Well, we kept driving and everyone was convincing themselves about the high chances of seeing more moose! Sure enough, a beautiful female, smaller moose appeared on the other side of the road this time. This one I did not see but the others did! Apparently, it was eating in a small clearing. I found it funny that I had seen the first and others didn’t and a few minutes later, the others saw the second and I didn’t. I am glad we all saw at least one moose.TRONDHEIM to MOSJØEN

We arrived at Mosjøen around 9.30pm and checked in to our cabin which was definitely more ordinary than some of the other places we had stayed yet it was home for the night and we were very grateful for it. After getting settled and refreshed we went for a quick drive to the other side of the town. This place is deserted! It was hard to find anyone let alone any open shops. Just some signs blowing in the wind, squeaking around as if trying to tell us a story of when people used to live here. A true ghost town. We figured it’s because it’s Sunday but surely there should be some sign of life. We stumbled across the lake that separated the town from the mountains. The shoreline was all pebbles and sand. I picked up a nice skimmer rock and gave it a go. Usually, I get quite a few bounces but I must have tried over 20 times without anything more than two bounces. I am not sure if the water here is just not bouncy or that I truly have lost touch with my arm. I didn’t take it to heart too much and thankfully was able to sleep well again this night.
