Vegan Crumbed Cheese Balls

Ok, seriously, you guys are going to want to make these! Who doesn’t love something that’s crispy, deep fried and just all round delicious! That’s the case with these Vegan Crumbed Cheese Balls!

Vegan Crumbed Cheese Balls

Firstly I used a specific cheese for this, it’s Fine Cultures Cashew Macadamia Camembert. It is pliable, so make sure you use a pliable cheese for this recipe. Some of Fine Cultures other cheese will work too, their Port Wine Cheddar that I used in my last gnocchi recipe, and their aged cheddar will work well.

Vegan Crumbed Cheese Balls

This recipe is so easy, it literally took me about 10 mins to make. Firstly, I rolled the cheese into balls and placed them in the freezer, then I made a batter with flour and soda water (if you don’t have soda water, just use normal water). Dip the balls into the batter, and then dip them in panko breadcrumbs mixed with nutritional yeast flakes. Then fry them up!!

You guys are going to want to make these, perfectly crispy, delicious morsels of goodness!

Ingredients
  • 1 block of Fine Cultures Macadamia Camembert cheese (or 100 – 150g of pliable vegan cheese)
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • generous sprinkle of salt and pepper
  • Approx 1/3 cup soda water (or water)
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 – 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1 – 2 cups rice bran oil (for frying)
Macadamia Curry Sauce
  • 1 – 2 Tablespoons macadamia butter
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon chilli olive oil (or plain olive oil)
  • Sprinkle of salt and pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 – 2 Tablespoons of soda water (or water)
Instructions
To Make Cheese Balls:
  1. Firstly I rolled the cheese into little ball shapes and put them in the freezer. They were only in there for a few minutes, so I don't think this step is that necessary.

  2. Then I made a batter from the flour, salt and pepper and soda water. I just added enough soda water to make a batter that wasn't too thick or too thin.

  3. Then mix the panko bread crumbs in a separate bowl and add the nutritional yeast to it.

  4. Coat the Balls in the batter mixture and then coat them in the panko mixure.

  5. In the meantime heat the rice bran oil in a medium to small saucepan over low heat.

  6. Once the oil is hot, drop in the cheese balls and cook them for a few minutes on each side until they are golden and crispy. Drain them on a paper towel and set aside.

To make Macadamia Curry Sauce:
  1. Mix all of the ingredients into a jar or small bowl and stir well. Add more water or soda water for a thinner consistency. Serve with the cheese balls! Enjoy!
